Being an artist was never a conscious decision – it was something I needed to do from the time I was a small child: a release of impressions and feelings that just seemed to build up inside of me. I always feel a kind of peace after I’ve completed a painting or print.
For me, printmaking and painting are very different creative processes.
Sometimes I like the outcome of my prints more, just because they can include so much information and connect my work to a larger story. I work through the print process layering ideas, text and collages to provoke a conversation with the viewer.
In my paintings, something more harmonious, beautiful and serene is expressed. I
worried about this for quite a while – about it not being “conceptual” -
I prefer to work with acrylic paints as they allow me to spontaneously follow insights which arise in the course of creating the painting – incorporating other mediums (textures, glazing, gels, collage, etc.) to create visual depth and interest.
Currently i am finishing my degree through Emily Carr, learning, experimenting and being inspired through it all.
